“I am gay. I belong to a metropolitan city in India, the country where homosexuality is punishable by law and can lead to punishments up to life imprisonment. I belong to my parents, who love me more than anything but (I think) will not take my coming out in a very good way. I belong to my grandparents, who love me more but aren’t really very accepting of the LGBTQ+ community. I belong to the society, who have shown me mixed responses on my identity. I am still on the journey of belonging to myself. I try harder and harder every day to make up my mind to shout out to the world about who I am and what I love. It is hard, you know, to keep it inside. I sometimes feel like I will burst like a balloon which could not hold the air any longer, anymore. My greatest desire is to move to some place where my sexuality is legal and accepted, a place where I can just call him my boyfriend or husband, not my partner, a place where they would not stare if we hold hands in the street, a place where everything would be just fine. Until then I will just dream of a life like no other and work towards making that dream come true.”
