Lucretia

Lucretia /

Staying in Kenya -Kakuma refugee camp for closely 4 years, I endured all sorts of violences for identifying as a queer trans person.

It came with a lot of challenges, challenges that bargained for my life. However, one thing that I was holding on to -social justice and activism.

In March 2024, I got relocated to Canada where I am settling now and slowly fixing my broken pieces of life back. One thing that I knew would still keep me strong and persevering even through this tough journey of settlement – social justice and activism.

Fortunately, I was appointed and invited to be a Board Chair for one of KNESWO, an opportunity that I went for immediately.

Volunteering as a Board chair for such an amazing organization is making me cherish the resilience of all queer refugee sex workers in Kenya and Africa at large because I know what it means and I see them working together with vigour to ensure safety and well being.

Amidst that journey, moving besides them is an empowerment and it makes me very proud of them. ”

Lucretia is the Board Chair of the Kenya Network of Queer Refugee Sex Workers Led Organization (KNESWO). KNESWO is an umbrella organization led by queer refugee sex workers in Kenya, focused on improving the lives of LGBTQI+ refugee sex workers who face immense challenges.
